About the Artist
Dominican-American photographer; Harol Baez, immigrated to Queens, New York in the mid 1980’s. Growing up in one of the most multi-culturally diverse neighborhoods in the world, Baez was immediately immersed into the vibrant tapestry of humanity and culture, which deepened his love for the arts and influenced who he is an artist today.
Baez is a self-taught photographer known for his use of high contrast lighting, sharp focus, unique locations and the fearless use of color to produce refined and glamorously stylized images. Influenced by many of the greats such as Avedon, Mapplethorpe, and Ritts with their iconic clean aesthetic; Baez blends traditional photographic elements with modern techniques to develop his own unique style of photography. He began his photographic career in 2009 when he was shooting models from agencies in NYC, working with up and coming fashion designers, stylists and makeup artists and working as a freelance photography assistant. While contributing to emerging fashion magazines and blogs he has quickly gained notice for his refreshing approach to conveying his point of view as an image maker.
Often in color or black and white, his portraits, beauty, and editorial work in both men and womenswear are bold, expressive, and cinematic. His rendering of color and unconventional approach to urban, and natural environments, produce surprising photographs of casual elegance and sophistication. Today he spends his time between NY, Miami and Los Angeles shooting for clients and collaborating with his creative teams in the Caribbean, Istanbul and London.
